Kirk shortsighted

Rev Dr Robert Anderson (Letters, 27 January) is concerned that the Church of Scotland has chickened out of becoming involved in the “campaign for (our) nation’s political independence”.

The clue to the problem is in his sentence, that in the Kirk “centrally powerful, left-leaning influences follow the policies of the Labour Party”.

Given that retaining the votes of Scottish Labour MPs at Westminster is of far more importance to the Labour Party than is Scottish independence, it looks as if our national Church’s small-minded, blind adherence to its “left-leaning” politics has led it into a very silly, impotent position on this matter of massive importance to the nation.
