King's betrayal

Your comment on the removal of James VI's portrait (your report, 19 June) follows the coy approach so often adopted to describe him as "the monarch who united the crowns of Scotland and England".

But the man was a traitor who betrayed the Scottish crown. Because of him the Palace of Holyroodhouse lies empty of a titular head of a Scottish state; royal ongoings are in the south of England.

It's like saying Judas Iscariot was one of the disciples. So he was, but he too was a traitor
