Kick out bigotry

Scotland's a free country and surely a football fan can support any team he or she wants. It's nobody else's business why a fan follows a particular team in preference to another.

OK, we have a peculiarly Scottish problem with religious bigots attaching themselves to certain teams. But I must say that I found MSP Ian McKee's ignorant observation (Letters, 10 June) "that all the bad things in Scottish society, including anti-Englishness, have developed whilst Scotland has been within the Union" as bigoted as anything emanating from the sectarian crowd. It's bad enough having religious bigots; no politician should make capital out of a friendly discussion between fans. We don't want more bigots on our terraces than the ones we've got.
