Keep right

Recent letters have referred to the danger of collisions between cyclists and pedestrians using shared paths. This would be minimised if pedestrians, both walking and running, kept to the right side of the track so that they faced the oncoming bicycle traffic and were unlikely to stray into the path of unseen cyclists coming up silently behind them.

I know this is the correct thing to do as it was printed on the back of the jotter I had in primary school. Occasional notices along the paths to that effect might encourage this practice.

As there are careless and aggressive motorists, so are there similar cyclists and even pedestrians. A little mutual consideration all round wouldn’t come amiss.
