Jobs market hope

On behalf of the Boys’ Brigade, I would like to welcome the
latest decrease in youth unemployment figures in Scotland (your report, 13 August).

Many of our members are at an age where they are thinking about leaving education and starting their working lives. While we all know it is still tough in the jobs market, this glimmer of hope will make a huge difference to our young people.

Part of the problem with
engaging our youngsters is the feeling that there are no opportunities, whether that be at home or in terms of a career.

The importance of aspects such as soft skills, self-confidence and participation should not be played down and are ones which the Boys’ Brigade promotes
heavily.

Investing time and effort in our young people, on both personal and political levels, will pay dividends in the future.
