Jobless lot

I feel a great deal of sympathy for Gordon Kennedy (Letters, 4 June), who has applied for 200 jobs using the Universal Jobmatch scheme and has not had any response from employers to even tell him that he has been unsuccessful.

I also think it is very brave of him to be so public about his difficult situation.

I am not familiar with this particular scheme, but I have been through long periods of unemployment when it feels you are getting nowhere.

Often, the process of applying for an individual job can take days, and it’s completely depressing when people don’t even bother to come back to you to acknowledge that they’ve received your application.

I do understand that they are overworked and swamped with applications from other desperate people but being ignored feels like a double rejection.
