Job concern

On 8 September, the day after the first poll to put the Yes campaign ahead in the referendum, Labour MP Douglas Alexander was interviewed on the BBC’s Newsnight.

Stony-faced, he pointed out that more than £2 billion had been wiped off the value of Scottish companies thanks to the prospect of independence.

He expressed his concern for “real people’s pensions and real people’s jobs … on the basis of a single opinion poll”.

In the month since the referendum delivered the No vote sought by Mr Alexander, around £160 billion has been wiped off the value of UK companies.

Imagine how concerned Mr Alexander must be about real people’s pensions and jobs now, within the continuing UK.

Funny how we haven’t heard about it.
