It's only the team Scots don't like

I SYMPATHISE with Stuart Eels (Debate, 4 July) in his disappointment at the number of Scots who dislike the England football team.

However, there are a number of reasons for this, some historical and others such as objections to a minority of England fans who, on the day of the Germany match, sang a song entitled "Two World Wars & One World Cup", when practically every town & village in Scotland has a memorial to those who fell in both wars fighting not for England but for Great Britain and her allies.

Moreover, English support for Scotland is not so widespread as Mr Eels thinks; I spent a lot of years living in Bristol where I came across many people who took delight in a Scottish sporting defeat. It's sporting rivalry, Mr Eels; the vast majority of Scots are not anti-English - just not very keen on their football team.
