It's good to talk

I do not "despise" atheists, as Alistair McBay claimed (Letters, 14 April). An unfortunate edit misapplied my description of "atheist (or any other) fundamentalists" to "atheists" in general. There are, of course, many atheists who are not fundamentalists: they are willing to debate, attempt to understand other points of view, do not assume that their views are an inevitable consequence of superior intelligence, and refrain from insult.
