Is ESPC fee legal?

The compulsory £370 advertisement fee charged by the the Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre (your report, 26 August) beggars belief. Any member of ESPC challenging this impost will be dealt with most severely; an example of corporate tyranny.

Surely this outrageous charge, being compulsory, directly proscribes the customer’s right to choose. Is this legal? Opinions please from the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Edinburgh’s Trading Standards Department.

This non-optional extra £370 extra is yet another example from the ROB (Rip Off Britain) Brigade. When, if ever, will we the British public decide that enough is enough?
