Ireland’s legacy

Thank you for your wonderfully enlightening obituary of Kenny Ireland (1 August).

I only knew about his acting work, and was always a fan of his performance in Benidorm, the ITV sitcom.

I had no idea, however, that he was such an important part of
Scotland’s arts world as a theatre director.

Indeed, it seems as though it would have taken a lot longer for the National Theatre of Scotland to be founded had it not been for Kenny Ireland arguing so passionately for it.

What a very sad loss to many his passing will be.
