Iran tensions

Britain invaded Iran (known as Persia at the time) three times during the last century. Of course we, with our allies, also helped to fund the invasion by Iraq’s Saddam Hussein. And the United States shot down a passenger aeroplane without apologising, though I realise that the storming of the US embassy was a provocation. We then had the arms for Iran scandal. But Iran, who have they invaded? It besieged Herat in the 1830s; not much of a criminal CV.

So, should not George Kerevan (Perspective, 1 February) therefore recognise that Iran has reasons to fear the West? I do not wish to be simplistic, but the Obama administration’s approach of easing sanctions on Iran is surely worthy of support.
