Impact on eagles of wind energy projects

THE claims of Lloyd Austin of RSPB (20 March) will stray dangerously near to hypocrisy in the minds of many, including RSPB members, and those who will, or understandably have, left over this issue. It should be asked whether a mandate from members was ever given to the board to engage in a clear and direct conflict of interests with the raison d'être of the charity (the protection of birds and their habitats) and, if so, when?

Yes, there has been strong opposition to a few high-profile applications, but all too often weak and conditional token objections to others expose an overall lack of intent – which is directly attached to the charity's heavy financial involvement with the wind industry.
