Illogical fees

I see that Edinburgh City Council is making its helpful contribution to the fight to keep inflation at bay by, quite needlessly, hiking parking charges by some 20 per cent.

What is the justification for this “modification” of parking charges, as the council rather coyly calls it?

At the same time, might I be permitted to question the council’s policy of setting the rate for residents’ parking permits according to the
engine size of the car?

When the car is parked, it is by definition not moving. So, there are no CO2 emissions! It all sounds dangerously like the popular sport of ripping off the motorist.
