Iceland riddle

I was interested to read Tavish Scott’s views (Perspective, 22
November) concerning Iceland and the EU. It seems the European Commission is so anxious for Iceland to join the EU that it is dragging its feet over imposing sanctions against it for illegal fishing of mackerel, for fear of alienating Icelandic opinion.

I find it strange that the EU should be so keen to have a tiny country like Iceland, with all its economic problems, while according to other unionist politicians it will put every possible obstacle in the path of Scotland’s membership.
