HSBC disgrace

It is difficult to disagree with the assessment of Peter Jones (Perspective, 9 February) that the HSBC tax evasion scandal “exemplifies what’s wrong with our political system”.

What is missing from his conclusion is an admission that on 18 September an opportunity was lost to radically change the British political system and thus bring about the demise of the thoroughly corrupt establishment that it has historically supported.
