THE most recent scandal with Lord Sewel, forcing his resignation, underlines the desperate need for a complete revision of our undemocratic second house.

It is completely unacceptable to have nearly 800 appointed Lords, whose numbers include criminals and fraudsters who cannot be expelled from the place where so many others go for a wee sleep and to claim their generous expenses.

I do hope that Lord Sewel’s ridiculous antics will prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back and will finally lead to radical change.
