Hot air

Very pertinent and revealing letters from Steuart Campbell and John Milne, disputing the claim that 40.3 per cent of the electricity consumed in Scotland came from renewables (Letters, 24 December).

First Minister Alex Salmond has, in the past, held up Denmark as an example of wind energy and that 20 per cent of its generated electricity came from wind. However, Denmark had to explain that while it generated this 20 per cent, only half of this was used in the country and the other half was sold at a huge loss or was discharged into the ground.
