Hope story dashed

The Fife village of Aberdour can boast many a fascinating story of its links with the sea but, as research for a recently published book revealed, it cannot lay claim to being the location of Jane Whyte's courageous rescue of the crew of the steamer William Hope in 1884 (your report, 3 May). Jane's home was in the Aberdour Bay, which lies between Rosehearty and Pennan on the Moray Firth.
