Homes of choice

Shelter says Scotland must "move away from the myopic pursuit of homeownership" (your report, 10 June).

For some reason, the organisation continues to be set on disregarding the aspirations of Scots to own their own home. The fact is that home ownership is the overwhelming tenure of choice in Scotland. This is further borne out by the fact that the public's general belief in home-ownership is undented, with 89 per cent of respondents in a recent national survey stating that they regard it as a sensible investment in their future.

Our industry has been at the forefront of highlighting the problems facing first-time buyers, both in terms of tightened lending criteria and the struggle to find larger deposits. It's disappointing Shelter only chooses to do so out of political expediency.
