Home Rule bill

Susan Forde (Letters, 29 September) reminded me that the Liberal Party in government in 1914 introduced Home Rule bills for Scotland as well as Ireland.

The war intervened and century of electoral disaster followed for the Liberals.

Now opinion polls give the party the support of about 8 per cent of Scots. However, Home Rule (but not independence) remains their policy.

Does this mean we judge parties on their Westminster performance rather than their policies for Scotland? Or have we for most of the last century not cared where parliament is?
