History’s lesson

In the reign of King James I & VI (he died in 1625) one of the great national grievances was the perpetual growth of London.

“It drew all the moisture of life from the remoter parts,” King James is quoted as ­saying. “England will shortly become London, and London, ­England.”

So, once again, we find there is nothing new under the sun.
