History lesson

We CAN only hope that Alastair Moffat and Jim Wilson’s DNA survey is more reliable than their knowledge of Scotland’s history (your report, 17 April).

We know who the Maeatae were, where they came from and how they got here.

They were not by any means a “lost tribe” who disappeared into the mists of time.

We also know that Cassius Dio misnamed them and that this has puzzled historians ever since.

It is important that if the past is unknown it should not be invented.
