Hire state of being

Isn’t it time that Scotland’s capital city adopted the same bike rental scheme as Glasgow?

Since it was installed in June, Glasgow’s self-service bike hire has averaged between 260 and 300 trips a day. According to figures from Glasgow City Council, there have been more than 20,000 hires to date, which is proof that more people will cycle if encouraged to do so.

Such a bike hire scheme in Edinburgh would appeal to the commuter, the tourist and the casual cyclist.

Cycling is empowering as it offers control over your journey and, so often, is simply a better way to get around.

More cyclists on the roads will also ultimately make it safer to cycle for everyone, as motorists come to accept our presence and we can truly begin to see a healthy and sustainable cycling culture take root.
