Highlight bishops

At long last, the issue of 26 Church of England Bishops having the right to sit in the House of Lords has correctly been linked to the ongoing call for “English votes for English laws”.

As David Maddox (Inside Westminster, 28 October) asks: “How can it be so wrong for Scottish MPs to vote on England-only laws, when representatives of an English church can be given automatic seats in the UK Parliament?”

I would also say that it is equally unfair that members of the UK government cabinet (such as Education, Justice, Business, Health, Communities & Local Government, Culture/Media/Sport and Environment/Food/Rural Affairs) sit purely due to their English-
only responsibilities.

When looking at fairness and democracy, let’s look at it overall and not only one headline grandstanding issue which it has been up until now.
