High school plea

Allan Massie's proposal for the Old Royal High School building in Edinburgh (Opinion, 9 February) sounds a bit too much like Dundee High School South. But instead of his "sixth form college", why not explore the idea of a truly open university modelled on the existing OU, the College de France in Paris and the 1968 Sorbonne?

No fees; no overpaid administrators; payment by results for teachers; and call it "Demarco College".

You could still incorporate hostel accommodation and exhibition space as well as The Scotsman podcasts.
