Heroic rescue

The successful rescue of British aid worker, Helen Johnston, and her fellow hostages in Afghanistan by SAS troops and US Special Forces, underlines the bravery and professionalism of these soldiers. They are a credit to their countries.

However, one must wonder what could happen if a Scottish aid worker in some far-flung country is kidnapped at some future date should Scotland become an independent nation.

Will the Scottish prime minister need to go cap in hand to the Westminster or US governments for help or will Scotland’s “Home Guard” have an elite unit which can ride to the rescue on rented helicopters?
