Heritage vandals

Further to the article by Hugh Andrew about the destruction of our heritage (Platform, 23 July), I think the National Trust for Scotland is one of the culprits.

In the Burns Heritage Museum it keeps referring to Burns's language as "Scots", when any real scholar knows that it was "Scotch".

Its excuse is that a bunch of phoney modern scholars have bullied nearly everyone into calling it "Scots". It claims that Scots call whisky "Scotch".

It is some time since I frequented pubs, but in my day no Scot ever called it "Scotch", but a dram, hauf, or some such thing.

Also, everyone round about called the language Scotch, including Sir James Wilson, the famous dialect scholar.
