Heritage status

I WAS delighted to see the Forth Bridge has been
nominated for World Heritage site status (your report, 24 January).

It must be regarded as a hot favourite to win because of its worldwide reputation.

Unesco will surely recognise the remarkable engineering feat of the first steel bridge to be built in the UK, as a tribute to the 4,600 workers who used 64,800 tonnes of steel to complete it in seven years, with the loss of 98 men.
