Healthy weather

Scottish health secretary Alex Neil has said the NHS in Scotland is coping “much better” with winter pressures this year than it did last year (your report, 3 March).

Couldn’t that have a great deal to so with the fact that we’ve had virtually no freezing cold winter weather this year, as much as the Scottish Government’s introduction of the emergency care action plan?

There have been minimal days with treacherous conditions for vehicles to skid on ice and snow causing road traffic accident casualties.

There have been far fewer people falling, sustaining fractures, sprains, split heads and other injuries because of the favourably mild weather. The temperatures have eased the numbers suffering from flu and respiratory illnesses.
