Why is there a statue of the Duke of Wellington in Glasgow (Letters, 25 November)?
Apart from having led the British contingent of the army which saw off Napoleon (a popular deed at the time) he was also prime minister in 1828-30.
Another British prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill, has a statue in London which a few years ago was decorated with a length of turf in the shape of a Mohican haircut. This struck me as hilarious. Likewise the traffic cone on Wellington; but in both cases, once was enough, surely? Constant repetition isn’t witty; it is tedious.
