Hail king shale

Having followed the various interesting articles and letters in The Scotsman on the subject of renewables, with the zealots on one side and the deniers on the other, I am surprised that neither has mentioned an energy source, which could make the UK less reliant on foreign imports and useless wind turbines.

I refer to shale gas, which has transformed the US energy industry and also Canada which has huge reserves. It could be the best thing to happen to the British economy since the discovery of North Sea oil and gas.

There are apparently trillions of cubic feet of shale gas deposits in the north-east of England and under the North Sea. A new energy frontier, which will provide cheaper energy for at least the next century.

We should stop building wind turbines and use the subsidies to exploit this discovery using British machines, British labour and British engineers.
