Gulled of Gullane

BRIAN Mayes (Letters, 11 May) is mistaken in saying that Gullane is pronounced Gyllane. Gullane is from the Gaelic Gualann (pronounced goo-uhlun) meaning shoulder, an obvious reference to the shape of Gullane hill. Gyllane is mere affectation.
