Gritting

After only two weeks of snow and freezing temperatures many councils are saying they are now running out of salt and grit (your report, 4 January).

With good forward planning this would not have happened. In future, councils should be forced to stockpile at least two months' supply of road salt and grit going into winter. Even squirrels have enough savvy to store food to last them through the winter months.
