Greek tragedy

It is precisely because Greece made a political decision to join the euro and give up part of its economic sovereignty (the use of monetary policy) that it is in this mess (your report, 15 May). If it still had the drachma, it could devalue its way out of the corner it has painted itself into. However, absolute economic sovereignty is a chimera in these days of globalisation and economic interdependence, even for the superpower that is the United States.
