Greek tragedy

Picture the scene: the year is 1948 you are holidaying with your family on the island of Jura and you take a boat trip out to the famous Corryvrechan whirlpool with your family. The boat gets into trouble in the turbulent waters and is being dragged down.

A passing boat sees your distress and throws you a rope.

Do you grab the rope with gratitude or hold a referendum with the other boat occupants as to whether you should accept the rope?
