Gospel truth?

One wonders how many of the scholars Richard Lucas imagines, “defend the Gospels as reliable
accounts” are Christian? Doubtless, most Muslim scholars would likewise defend the Koran.

Those not blinkered by religious ideology recognise that the Gospels were written decades after the purported events, in far-flung places, and are unlikely to have ever been verified by Christ’s own circle.

Their unknown authors mixed oral tradition with tales fabricated to depict Jesus as fulfilling Old Testament prophecy. The result is a collection of contradictory, ideologically driven, propaganda documents bent on portraying an executed cult leader as the messiah.

Christians can kid themselves all they like, but their Gospels are not reliable.
