Golfing drive

It COMES as no great surprise that, in an attempt to “help” struggling golf clubs, the Scottish Golf Union is appointing three additional members of staff (your report, 24 September).

I am sure that it can well afford to increase its staff, having increased the capitation fee – which all members of golf clubs are forced to pay – by more than 47 per cent over the past four years.

I also note that the SGU is to let Scotland’s club golfers have a say in shaping the game’s future.

This must be some sort of joke as there is no evidence that the SGU has ever been influenced by grassroots opinion in the past.
