Gamekeepers ignored

As practical and professional wildlife managers, the Scottish Gamekeepers Association (SGA) works tirelessly to build bridges with conservation agencies and has repeatedly condemned the illegal poisoning of birds of prey.

We were, therefore, as baffled as Logan Steele (Letters, 1 July) when we read (your report, 26 June) of the "show of unity" among countryside organisations for the RSPB-led pledge to end the illegal killing of wildlife.

The SGA was not a signatory to this pledge for the simple reason that we were not informed of the proposal nor invited to participate.

It is easy to jump to conclusions, but perhaps on this occasion Mr Steele should point his accusatory finger at the RSPB rather than the SGA.
