Gaelic success

Perhaps the heading for your item about Gaelic ("A message you may not understand"), could have read "should understand" (your report, 22 June). There are many more people interested and involved in our language than the bare statistics suggest. The progress of the University of the Highlands and Islands is testimony to that.

It is good to see the first Gaelic TV advert will be shown to viewers of popular soaps. Some may even wake up.

The input of Gaelic teachers into all levels of Scottish education is to be welcomed. Students from the earliest years benefit, as do their parents. They appreciate the benefit of the mental stimulus of learning Gaelic.

It is not the first time that a medium has brought about unexpected insight.
