How very apt that First  Minister Alex Salmond is supporting a struggling comic (your report, 15 August).

Those in charge of The Dandy, the multi-billion pound Thomson media empire, also fail to recognise unions. Perfect bedfellows.

Let’s face it: Alex fancies himself as a bit of a dandy but he’s more like a comic in desperate need of a punchline.
