Fuelling debate

It IS a long time since a senior British cleric had a background in science and technology, thus much was hoped of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, former oilman Justin Welby.

We did not have long to wait and the Church of England has entered the fracking debate, arguing that “blanket opposition” ignores the needs of the vulnerable in our society. He also points out that fracking allowed the US to become the only nation to achieve a serious reduction in air pollution while at the same time boosting its economic recovery.

For too long, mainstream churches have blindly supported environmental propagandists and refused to take seriously the growing number of people suffering from fuel poverty.

It is also offensive to see bourgeois greens blocking every technological innovation in food and energy that would improve the lot of Britain’s impoverished minority.
