Fringe staycation

Brian Ferguson’s article on how various Fringe venues held up in the face of the Olympics this year (27 August) made very
interesting reading.

I wonder how many people were in the same position as me this August.

Due to our wages not keeping up with inflation, and our general lack of security about the future, we decided not to have a holiday abroad this summer, opting instead to take a week off and really enjoy the festivals.

We hunted for two-for-one deals, and ended up seeing a lot more shows than we normally would.

We found that a lot of venues, especially the Pleasance, had
really improved facilities this year, which made us spend a lot more time there than we had planned to.

We also noticed that the Fringe had made it easier for punters to pick up tickets in various spaces, which made us much more likely to buy tickets.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in Charlotte Square.

The whole experience made me very proud of my city.
