It’s interesting that Mme Trierweiler has said that “in retrospect” she regrets having sent a damaging tweet about her one-time rival for the odious M Hollande’s affections, Ségolène Royal (your report, 31 January).

Mme T may have been foolish in pressing the send button (as many of us have been), but how refreshing for someone involved in the world of politics to admit they were wrong.

Scottish politicians please copy that aspect of the story. Personally, I’m still amazed that at least three independent, strong and feisty women have fallen for M Hollande. He may be president of France but his tact and diplomacy skills are lamentable.
