Free thinking

The proposed acquisition of Prestwick Airport by the Scottish Government presents a huge opportunity to revitalise the economy of Ayrshire and the west of Scotland, so my suggestion is to think big. Why not create a free trade zone?

An airport-based free trade zone with direct railway connections is a near perfect scenario and could create substantial employment opportunities without putting Prestwick in direct competition with Glasow airport – they might even complement each other.

Such an initiative could in time further justify the re-opening of the cross-Glasgow railway link to improve transport and communication links across all of Scotland.
