Free Ryder issue

It is greatly to be hoped that Perth and Kinross Council will reject the request of Ryder Cup Europe to close the public footpath at Auchterarder Golf Course to discourage free viewing of the event in September (your report, 1 April).

The good people of Auchterarder surely deserve some kind of compensation for the disruption they have to endure, and playing the public-safety card is just ­nonsense.
