Free admission

Many thanks for keeping your readership informed of the ongoing situation regarding charging visitors for entry to Glasgow Cathedral (Your report, 25 April).

I do however wish to clarify that the management by Historic Scotland of Dunfermline Abbey, as referred to in the article, is confined to the Old Nave and not Dunfermline Abbey Church which is an active parish church and place of worship under the ownership of the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland and in the custody of the Abbey Kirk Session and Congregation.

We welcome over 30,000 visitors from March to October each year to the Abbey Church, last resting place of King Robert the Bruce and other Royals, and to which admission is free – although we gratefully accept donations towards the increasing maintenance costs of this historic monument. I trust that this information sets the record straight.
