Forest counterfeit

In his rebuttal to Dave Morris (Letters, 21 March) Alan Featherstone Watson of Trees For Life (Letters, 26 March) cleverly avoided answering the main charge: that the Caledonian Forest cannot be restored by planting; planting can only create new plantations.

Whether or not these new plantations look like Caledonian Forest is irrelevantly superficial – they will still be plantations, not Caledonian Forest, where the trees are descended generation to generation by natural regeneration.
