Flawed argument

George Shering (Letters, 5 November) raised some very interesting points about how Switzerland manages without a second chamber by having regular multiple-item referendums about smaller issues.

What an excellent idea, particularly in a new media age when it could be possible to do this all electronically.

However, Mr Shering lets himself down with his final sentence: “A bonus is that you are often waylaid in the streets and can discuss the issues, sometimes with pretty Swiss girls.”

How irritatingly patronising.
