Flagging interest

Douglas Turner (Letters, 10 November) comments entertainingly on 5 November events in Sussex which some thought offensive to Scotland. It was interesting that much of the media which had been consistently against a Yes vote in the referendum paid great attention to that apparent insult while ignoring attacks on the Scottish Saltire flag by men carrying Union flags in Glasgow’s George Square (and on a young woman trying to hold on to one on 19 September).

We might wonder whether those letting off fireworks on 5 November are celebrating the
attempt to blow up the West-minster Parliament or its failure.
